How to make a polymer clay acorn

An acorn with a little cap, like the ones you find in the woods in autumn.

What you need

Clay in these colours

  • Light brown
  • Brown
  • Black
  • Pink
  • Sculpting tools from the kit
  • An electric oven and baking paper. An adult does the baking.

Step by step

  1. Roll a light brown ball.

  2. Roll one side of the ball thinner to make an egg shape.

  3. Roll a brown ball and press it half flat into a little cap.

  4. Press the cap in place on the wide end of the egg shape.

  5. Use the needle tool to poke small holes in the cap.

  6. Roll a small brown sausage for the stalk.

  7. Press the stalk in place on top of the cap.

  8. Press black eyes, pink cheeks and a black mouth onto your acorn. Done!

Tip

Bring a real acorn indoors to use as an example.

An adult does the baking

  • 110–130 °C, never higher
  • 10–15 minutes per 6 mm of thickness
  • Electric oven only
